John Eaves lives and works in Bath.He was born in Bristol in 1929 and studied at the Bath Academy of Art from 1949-1952 where his tutors included William Scott, Peter Potworowski (Painting) and James Tower (Ceramics). Eaves went on to work
as a Course Director at the Bath College of Higher Education from 1958-1985 before focusing exclusively on his career as an artist. He has participated in solo and numerous group exhibitions in Germany, England and the U.S
since 1954.

Eaves strives to make images of 'power and poetry' inspired by the rhythms, structures and colours of nature and the landscape; of these qualities, colour is his principal concern and passion.

Represented in private collections throughout
the UK, Germany and the U.S.

Awarded Winston Churchill Fellowship, to travel and work as a painter in New Mexico, USA

Completed two murals at the Cafe Grun,
Bremen - June 1985

Awarded Leverhulme Emeritus Fellowship to
research Emil Nolde and complete a thematic
series of paintings in North Germany
( 1986 - 87 ) 

Nine Prints for the Art Group Ltd. and I.K.E.A. in
1987, 1988, 1991, 1994, & 2002

A 'Cast of Stones' published by Digger Deeper 1996 with poems by Phillip Gross and Stonehenge drawings by John Eaves. Grant Award from South West Arts to tour these Drawings and associated performances to three schools and a prison during 1994.

“Every art is abstract, only reality is not but then reality is not art”

This enigmatic but telling quote from the German
painter Emil Nolde is more pertinent than anything I could devise or dream up. It is best for the paintings to speak for themselves rather than resorting to literary descriptions which in all probability would be wide off the mark.
